For our video we gained inspiration for our storyline from the song “Alive” by Krewella. From our collective experience as nursing students, we know that when a medical catastrophe arises it is as if the patient’s real life is suspended and she is thrust into a kind of half-life – the life of the cancer. We brainstormed how we could represent hope and the result was pink ballet slippers and a bottle of pink glitter. These two items are with the patient from the onset of her diagnosis. She is “alive” through dance and releasing glitter around her. Dance and hope bring more color and purpose to her life and to those she touches. The patient experiences support from all those in the video wearing pink gloves. At the conclusion, a little girl in pink is shown to represent the hope of our future—one without breast cancer.
